Egypt Names Members of Int’l Quran Competition Panel of Judges

IQNA – Egypt’s Awqaf minister announced the names of foreign Quran experts selected to serve in the panel of arbiters of the country’s upcoming international Quran contest.

Mohammed Mukhtar Gomaa said the four Quran scholars are from Arab and African countries, Al-Fajr news website reported.

The first one is Taqi ad-Din Mustafa Abdul Basit al-Tamimi from Palestine. He has a PhD in linguistics and philosophy from a university in Sudan and currently teaches at a university in Palestine.

Tawfiq Ibrahim Ahmed Zmara from Jordan has a PhD from an Islamic university in Pakistan. He will judge the performances of the contenders in the fields of ten styles of recitation, memorization and research.

Abkar Wilr Madu, who is from Chad and has a PhD in Arabic language and Islamic teachings from a Sudanese university, is the third member of the panel.

And the last one is Sheikh Ahmed al-Saqir Ambi from Senegal. He is the secretary general of an Islamic institute in the Senegalese capital of Dakar.

The 30th edition of Egypt’s international Holy Quran competition will get underway on Saturday, December 23.

The Dar-ul-Quran Center of the Masjid Misr in Egypt’s new administrative capital will host the event.

Earlier, Gomaa said that the total amount of cash prizes for this edition will be over 8 million Egyptian pounds, showing a 300-percent growth compared to last year’s edition.

He also said that on the sidelines of the competition, a plan for recitation of 40 Hadiths of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) will be held at the Imam Hussein (AS) Mosque in Cairo.
